The HC-020K is a compact and versatile photoelectric wheel speed counting encoder kit designed for measuring rotational speed, counting pulses, and tracking position in robotics and motion control applications. This complete kit includes a slotted encoder disk and an infrared photoelectric sensor module that work together to generate precise digital pulses as the wheel rotates, enabling accurate speed measurement, odometry calculation, and motor feedback control.
The sensor operates on the optical interruption principle, where the slotted encoder disk passes through the infrared beam between the transmitter and receiver. Each slot in the disk interrupts the beam and generates a clean digital pulse output, which can be counted by a microcontroller to determine rotational speed, distance traveled, or angular position. The module features onboard signal conditioning circuitry with a comparator that produces clean TTL-level output pulses, eliminating noise and signal irregularities for reliable counting even at high speeds.
Compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, STM32, and virtually all microcontroller platforms, this encoder kit is widely used in differential drive robots, line-following robots, autonomous vehicles, and DC motor PID speed control systems. The mounting bracket and encoder disk can be easily fitted to standard BO motors, TT motors, and other common hobby robot motors. Whether you’re implementing closed-loop speed control for precise motor management, building an odometry system for robot navigation, or simply counting wheel rotations, the HC-020K provides an affordable and easy-to-use solution for motion feedback.
